Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE)
Gregory T. Wolf, M.D., Director
The University of Michigan Head and Neck SPORE Program is one of only five "Specialized Programs of Research Excellence" recognized and funded nationally by the National Cancer Institute to conduct cutting edge translational research for patients with cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract. Our translational research is specifically focused on development of innovative clinical studies based on laboratory investigations and on using our extensive clinical database to design meaningful laboratory research projects. We have been supported in this multidisciplinary effort since 2001. Annual funding exceeds $2.5 million which supports 4 major translational research projects, several core facilities, a developmental research program (that now numbers nearly 30 pilot projects) and a program in career development for translational scientists early in their research careers.
